September 10, 2013

It has been and will continue to be crazy for awhile longer (why there hasn't been much added to the blog). Spent a week in Pasadena, TX only to turn around and get in the car with my husband, youngest son and his fiancĂ© (It was a week before he could find his father and I together to tell us he proposed) to head to Syracuse, NY to spend Labor Day weekend with our middle son and his girlfriend and to meet her family. Had an awesome time and even got to visit a quilt store while there and brought a few pieces of fabric home with me (adding to stash - no reduction this time!!).

Heavy into getting ready for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure taking place September 28. Started a 6 week quilt class tonight at Millstream School in Findlay, OH. The class is called Buggy Wheel. I saw five of my fellow Scrappy Stitchers digging into cutting fabric for this quilt. Saw others I didn't know, but will before we are done. Also saw a neighbor, who I haven't seen in quite awhile in the class. Funny how small the world can be at times.

I entered a contest that was in the Summer 2013 Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 7 magazine In May 2013. I was notified in July that I was one of the winners. The prize  was to win 10 of the blcoks featured in the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 7 magazine. Here is a picture of the blocks I won:

Now I have to figure out what to do with these and then submit a picture to the magazine to possibly be featured in a future issue.

On Thursday, September 5 I had a wonderful interview with Suzy Parron, author of the book Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement (she signed it while she was here). She wanted to know the story behind my quilt block we have painted on our barn. Our block is considered the oldest in Hancock County. Barb Gabriel from Arcadia, OH who is leading the movement for Hancock County gave me a copy of the pamphlet that the Hancock Count Convention and Visitors Bureau is publishing. My block is the lower one on the front. It is a Mariner's Compass. I have a 50/50 chance of my interview being in her next book. So exciting to see all the quilts blocks throughout Hancock County!!

Had a wonderful time on August 3 with some of my fellow Scrappy Stitchers on a shop hop (put together by the Stitchin Time Quilt Club) to quilt shops in Marion, Waldo and Columbus, OH. Saw many wonderful varieties of fabric which made the wheels turn with all kinds of ideas. The back end of the van was full of fabric. Topped the evening off with a visit to a Super JoAnn's before heading to dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory at the Polaris shopping mall. What a wonderful way to spend the day with fellow friends and quilters!!
