January 17, 2014

Another week of winter with more to come. All of the weather forecasts are saying more snow this week. Looks like more evenings spent in the sewing room staying warm and working on UFOs. I have been working on cleaning up the sewing rooms and getting things more organized and easier to find. I will post pictures once I have it all cleaned up again. I am working on several blocks of the month this year. I have the first two blocks done for Pat Sloan's Globetrotting Quilt Along. There is also an Arufil BOM through Pat Sloan that I have yet to make the blocks. This is a goal to started on this weekend. I am also doing Michele Foster's Quilting for Accuracy Quilt Along (http://quiltinggallery.com/learning-center/aiming-for-accuracy-quilt-along/) and I need to do the first 4 blocks for this one. I am hoping to learn more accurate techniques for making blocks and quilts. The quilt for this one is called Delightful Stars.

Now it is time for catching up everyone on what we did at our last workshop.

February 8, 2014

Ten of us were able to make it to the workshop, evening though it was a cold and snowy day.

Before I share what all we accomplished in our worshop, I want to share some additional information with everyone. The Scrappy Stitchers are once again doing a block exchange this year. This time around we are making the Churn Dash block from here: http://www.quilterscache.com/C/ChurnDashBlock.html. You need to let Nancy know before April 12, 2014 of you are going to participate in this exchange. We will be exchanging the blocks on June 14, 2014 at our workshop. The only rules to this is that is has to contain a neutral background of your choice. For now start out making 10 blocks and Nancy will let everyone know April 12 exactly how many we will need to make for the exchange. Can't wait to see all of the wonderful color blocks this will produce. This will be a great stash busting project.

Judy offered to teach those of us wishing to learn how to make a little duffle bag. She used the pattern "A Little Duffle Do It" by Karen West with a few of her own modifications thrown in, which you can find the pattern here at this Connecting Threads link:

Here are the bags we (Frossie, Dee, Susan, Jacquie and myself) made and they all turned out so well. There was such a nice variety of fabric. We all had wonderful time making these and I lost my fear of putting in a zipper for the moment. I hadn't sewn a zipper since 8th grade Home Ec. I was able to knock out 4 of these little bags for the day. Dee made her own quilted fabric using 2 1/2" wide strips, then cut her bags out from that (her's is the fall color one in the first picture).

When Judy was done helping us make our first bags, she continued working on her project called Flower Penny Garden designed by Lisa Bongean Primitive Gatherings 2011. This project contains many pieces of wool applique. She had a beautiful box with all of the various pieces in little bags contained inside. This project will require many hours of hand applique.

Jacquie was able to join us for the day and shared several of her projects with us.
She used the pattern Yellow Brick Road by Terry Atkinson. Love the colors chosen for this quilt top.
She used the 3-6-9 pattern. Another good use of colors. Love how the red makes the whole quilt pop.

She made this very cute Fish Bowl quilt. Here is a link to the block on Quilter's Cache: http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FishBowlBlock.html
She called this one "Where's Nemo?" and is considering entering this in the Sauder's Village Quilt Show. Here is a link to the information regarding the quilt show if anyone is interested in going: http://www.saudervillage.com/Creativity/quilt_show_14_announce.asp

Dee brought in her completed Buggy Wheel quilt that was an Adult Learning class taught by Ginger at the Millstream. She used the 1930's Replica fabric to do her quilt.

She pieced the back on this particular quilt.

Here is a close up of the block. The colors are just wonderful and cheery!

Nancy was continuing to work on blocks that she started at our recent quilt retreat. She is making Leah's Start blocks. You can find the pattern for these blocks here: http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepattern/

Andrea was working on a Caterpillar Flannel Rag quilt for her best friend's upcoming 2nd daughter. She was able to lay it all out and start sewing it. She had done most of the cutting out of the pieces at our recent quilt retreat. She made the Turtle three years ago for the same family but for their first daughter.

Susan worked on blocks for a quilt called "You Want me to Piece What?". This is a work in progress, but she had quite a few blocks done for this. Love the color combination for this quilt!

Well this completes the show and tell of what we did for the day. As always I will keep everyone posted on all the beautiful projects we are working on. It is wonderful to be able to get together with a group of ladies that all share the same love and passion for making all forms of quilted projects.

Happy quilting everyone!!

February 6, 2014

Hello Scrappy Stitchers!

Wanted to let everyone know that our blog has been accepted as a link on the following website: http://quiltinggallery.com/

Spent last night curled up on my couch next to the wood burner knitting on a scarf while watching my favorite shows. I am making it a goal this year to work on UFOs, which includes quilts and knitting. I make scarves for church that they give away at Christmas time. Straight knitting is one thing I can do in the car when traveling that doesn't mess with my motion sickness. I don't have to look at what I knit.

Hope everyone is staying warm with all of the snow we have on the ground and the cold temperatures. I am thinking warm thoughts towards Spring.

Scrappy Stitcher,

Theresa

February 3, 2014

Hello everyone, hope you had a wonderful weekend full of quilting!! I know I did! I attended my first quilt retreat with about 21 other quilters. It may have been raining and snowing outside but it was warm and cozy inside with all of the sewing going on.

Here are a few of the projects that were completed at our retreat. There were so many beautiful works of art being made. I was sorry to have not remembered my camera for the retreat till later on. Then I was busy sewing and not snapping pictures that would have been nice to share.

Susan shared her completed quilt top from our 2013 Christmas Quilt Block exchange. It was beautifully quilted by Ginger. She has three additional blocks from this challenge that she will be making into a table runner.

Ginger dropped in on Saturday to show us the quilt (Emily's Wedding pictured below) she made for the upcoming Millstream quilt class. Info for class is included below. For more information on this class or others: MillstreamAdultEd.org or call 419-427-5422
Emily’s Wedding (w/Ginger) (Limit 12) Fee: $50/$40 Sr.
For those who have pieced quilts before, this CHALLENGED LEVEL quilt is called Emily’s quilt. The first week they will receive the pattern, fabric requirements and special tools that is required for this quilt. 6 weeks/12 hours Tues 3/4 - 4/8 6:30-8:30 pm

I am participating in a 2014 BOM the Pat Sloan is putting on online. It is called Globetrotting. Here is the link to Free Quilt Patterns for Pat Sloan's Globetrotting BOM information:

Here are my January (Washington, DC block) and February (Venice, Italy) blocks:

I also completed two blocks from a UFO that I have had for quite awhile. It was another BOM that I wanted to do. It is called Quilt in a Day Pioneer
Sampler by Eleanor Burns (ISBN 0-922705-43-7).

Golden Gate

Rocky Mountain Puzzle

Part of my to do list this weekend was to update our blog with the our activities from our January 11, 2014 workshop. Our February workshop will be here before we know it. My resolution for the new year is to stay on top of things, so far not doing so hot, but will strive to get better. :)

I hope everyone enjoys the posts of what we are doing in our workshops. Grab your favorite drink, sit back and relax while you take a browse of what we have been doing.

January 11, 2014

There were 8 of us that were able to come put in a very productive dayat our workshop!

Fun was had by all as they shared their love of quilting!

Frossie completed several projects. Top two pictures are of an Single Irish Chain quilt pattern. She wanted to showcase the lighthouse fabric that she had for this quilt. Here is a link to a free pattern for this quilt: http://www.simplicity.com/t-free-quilt-patterns-Irish-Chain-Quilt.aspx

Judy did her usual beautiful work on these quilts. Always love the colors and patterns that she uses for her quilts.

Diane completed this version of a Disappearing Nine Patch. The pictures of the batiks she used do not do them justice. It was a beautiful top she made for one of her daughters.

Diane worked on this project which she was doing for the Black Swamp Quilters January 2014 Green Thumb Quilt Challenge.

Well it is time to put this post and the blogger to bed now. Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week. Take the time to fit some quilting in here and there as it is good for the soul!!
