Another week of winter with more to come. All of the weather forecasts are saying more snow this week. Looks like more evenings spent in the sewing room staying warm and working on UFOs. I have been working on cleaning up the sewing rooms and getting things more organized and easier to find. I will post pictures once I have it all cleaned up again. I am working on several blocks of the month this year. I have the first two blocks done for Pat Sloan's Globetrotting Quilt Along. There is also an Arufil BOM through Pat Sloan that I have yet to make the blocks. This is a goal to started on this weekend. I am also doing Michele Foster's Quilting for Accuracy Quilt Along (http://quiltinggallery.com/learning-center/aiming-for-accuracy-quilt-along/) and I need to do the first 4 blocks for this one. I am hoping to learn more accurate techniques for making blocks and quilts. The quilt for this one is called Delightful Stars.
Now it is time for catching up everyone on what we did at our last workshop.

Ten of us were able to make it to the workshop, evening though it was a cold and snowy day.
Before I share what all we accomplished in our worshop, I want to share some additional information with everyone. The Scrappy Stitchers are once again doing a block exchange this year. This time around we are making the Churn Dash block from here: http://www.quilterscache.com/C/ChurnDashBlock.html. You need to let Nancy know before April 12, 2014 of you are going to participate in this exchange. We will be exchanging the blocks on June 14, 2014 at our workshop. The only rules to this is that is has to contain a neutral background of your choice. For now start out making 10 blocks and Nancy will let everyone know April 12 exactly how many we will need to make for the exchange. Can't wait to see all of the wonderful color blocks this will produce. This will be a great stash busting project.
Judy offered to teach those of us wishing to learn how to make a little duffle bag. She used the pattern "A Little Duffle Do It" by Karen West with a few of her own modifications thrown in, which you can find the pattern here at this Connecting Threads link:

Here are the bags we (Frossie, Dee, Susan, Jacquie and myself) made and they all turned out so well. There was such a nice variety of fabric. We all had wonderful time making these and I lost my fear of putting in a zipper for the moment. I hadn't sewn a zipper since 8th grade Home Ec. I was able to knock out 4 of these little bags for the day. Dee made her own quilted fabric using 2 1/2" wide strips, then cut her bags out from that (her's is the fall color one in the first picture).
When Judy was done helping us make our first bags, she continued working on her project called Flower Penny Garden designed by Lisa Bongean Primitive Gatherings 2011. This project contains many pieces of wool applique. She had a beautiful box with all of the various pieces in little bags contained inside. This project will require many hours of hand applique.
Jacquie was able to join us for the day and shared several of her projects with us.
She used the pattern Yellow Brick Road by Terry Atkinson. Love the colors chosen for this quilt top.
She used the 3-6-9 pattern. Another good use of colors. Love how the red makes the whole quilt pop.

Dee brought in her completed Buggy Wheel quilt that was an Adult Learning class taught by Ginger at the Millstream. She used the 1930's Replica fabric to do her quilt.
She pieced the back on this particular quilt.

Nancy was continuing to work on blocks that she started at our recent quilt retreat. She is making Leah's Start blocks. You can find the pattern for these blocks here: http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepattern/
Andrea was working on a Caterpillar Flannel Rag quilt for her best friend's upcoming 2nd daughter. She was able to lay it all out and start sewing it. She had done most of the cutting out of the pieces at our recent quilt retreat. She made the Turtle three years ago for the same family but for their first daughter.
Susan worked on blocks for a quilt called "You Want me to Piece What?". This is a work in progress, but she had quite a few blocks done for this. Love the color combination for this quilt!
Well this completes the show and tell of what we did for the day. As always I will keep everyone posted on all the beautiful projects we are working on. It is wonderful to be able to get together with a group of ladies that all share the same love and passion for making all forms of quilted projects.
