Hello Everyone!!

It has been awhile since I have been on here, so let me bring you up to date on what has been going on with the Scrappy Stitchers.

September 14, 2013 Workshop

Well we had beautiful weather and met for a day of sewing and exchanging our blocks for our Christmas Block Challenge.

Everyone involved brought there blocks or sent them with someone else if they couldn't be there. We laid them out so we could walk around and pick up each block. Somewhere in the craziness of getting all the block set up, I missed taking pictures of two of the blocks. The two center blocks were done by Joann (front) and Susan (back). Sorry ladies for missing close-ups of your blocks! :(

We are getting together in December for a Sunday brunch to share our quilt tops made from our blocks. Will share the pictures after the brunch!

Catching up and sewing!!

Joann Grubb was a new face for the day. She joined us for some much enjoyed sewing time.

Terry was working on her Golf quilt she was making for her husband.

Brent was working on an applique project. Unfortunately he used a marking pen that disappeared in the heat.

He remembered the trick of putting it in the freezer and it brought the ink back.

Frossie was working on a baby quilt.

Nancy was working on her Buggy Wheel quilt block for a class that was being taught at Millstream by Ginger Owenga.

Vicky was also working on her Buggy Wheel block for class.

Susan was working on these blocks. Love the colors!

Diane was working on these blocks. Looking very spring like!

Judy was working on blocks for a quilt called Lady of the Lake. I love how these blocks look and the variety of colors.

Laurie Hicks (President) from the Stitchin Time Quilt Club dropped in for a visit and to see what everyone was working on.

October 14, 2013 Workshop

I don't know who attended this workshop or what projects were worked on, as I was unable to attend this workshop. I spent the month of October driving a 634 mile pipeline from St. James, LA to Patoka, IL collecting all of the physical records along this line for work. I didn't accomplish any sewing as tired ruled my month. I was able to take time to shop at a few local fabric shops, got some great deals and of course had to ship most of it home as it wouldn't fit in the suitcase. As if I needed more fabric! When I did make it home from this trip at the end of the month and was able to rest up, I spent time cutting out several quilts. I also was able to pick up my supplies to make my Christmas cards, which I am working how they will look for now. I will post a picture when I get them figured out.

November 9, 2013 Workshop

Even though it was a beautiful yet cooler day, six of us were able to get together and accomplish some sewing. I was even able to sew on a Christmas present. Ginger stopped in for a visit and dropped off some scraps from a quilt that Nancy was having her quilt.

Several sewers have been looking for a pattern for a Pincushion Thread Catcher. I found this free pattern on Merriment Design website. Here is the link for anyone looking for this pattern: http://www.merrimentdesign.com/pincushion-thread-catcher.php

Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Noon is our Christmas Block Exchange brunch at Nancy's house. Everyone that as their Christmas Quilt block tops done bring them for show and tell. Also bring a brunch type food to share with everyone. Nancy will be sending out an email with more details for those who were part of the block exchange.

Vicky made more fabric story books and then tried her hand at making a bowl shaped pot holder that you use in the microwave.

Andrea was making a few more blocks for her Christmas Block Exchange Quilt, as she wanted 20 blocks for her quilt. All contain the focus fabric from the original challenge. These blocks are called Card Trick (top), Circle of Geese (bottom left) and Whirlpool (bottom right).

Frossie showed off her Christmas Block Challenge quilt top.

Frossie finish putting this baby quilt top together. This one is called Baby Zoo Crew.

Brent worked on the binding for these potholders for his kitchen. These match a wall hanging that he had worked on at an earlier time. Nancy was helping him with the technique of sewing the binding on both sides.

Brent was working on this wall hanging at the September workshop. Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year.

This is a placemat and the leaves at the top are dimensional.

Nice use of black buttons on the snowman.

Brent shared additional projects of appliqueing that he has gotten almost completed. I like all these projects, but I am partial to the snowmen.

My next post will hopefully contain some of the projects I have been working on and pictures from our brunch! Now that I have the blog all caught up for now, it is time to call it a night. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Take the time to enjoy all the little things that make life all worthwhile and fit some sewing in...

Your Fellow Scrappy Stitcher,

Theresa

September 10, 2013

It has been and will continue to be crazy for awhile longer (why there hasn't been much added to the blog). Spent a week in Pasadena, TX only to turn around and get in the car with my husband, youngest son and his fiancĂ© (It was a week before he could find his father and I together to tell us he proposed) to head to Syracuse, NY to spend Labor Day weekend with our middle son and his girlfriend and to meet her family. Had an awesome time and even got to visit a quilt store while there and brought a few pieces of fabric home with me (adding to stash - no reduction this time!!).

Heavy into getting ready for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure taking place September 28. Started a 6 week quilt class tonight at Millstream School in Findlay, OH. The class is called Buggy Wheel. I saw five of my fellow Scrappy Stitchers digging into cutting fabric for this quilt. Saw others I didn't know, but will before we are done. Also saw a neighbor, who I haven't seen in quite awhile in the class. Funny how small the world can be at times.

I entered a contest that was in the Summer 2013 Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 7 magazine In May 2013. I was notified in July that I was one of the winners. The prize  was to win 10 of the blcoks featured in the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 7 magazine. Here is a picture of the blocks I won:

Now I have to figure out what to do with these and then submit a picture to the magazine to possibly be featured in a future issue.

On Thursday, September 5 I had a wonderful interview with Suzy Parron, author of the book Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement (she signed it while she was here). She wanted to know the story behind my quilt block we have painted on our barn. Our block is considered the oldest in Hancock County. Barb Gabriel from Arcadia, OH who is leading the movement for Hancock County gave me a copy of the pamphlet that the Hancock Count Convention and Visitors Bureau is publishing. My block is the lower one on the front. It is a Mariner's Compass. I have a 50/50 chance of my interview being in her next book. So exciting to see all the quilts blocks throughout Hancock County!!

Had a wonderful time on August 3 with some of my fellow Scrappy Stitchers on a shop hop (put together by the Stitchin Time Quilt Club) to quilt shops in Marion, Waldo and Columbus, OH. Saw many wonderful varieties of fabric which made the wheels turn with all kinds of ideas. The back end of the van was full of fabric. Topped the evening off with a visit to a Super JoAnn's before heading to dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory at the Polaris shopping mall. What a wonderful way to spend the day with fellow friends and quilters!!

August 10, 2013

Hello everyone!! We had another beautiful day for quilting, even with occasional rain in the afternoon. Ten of us were able to get together and spend the day working on our various projects. Those who weren't able to spend time with us were in our thoughts and want you to know you are missed on these fun days. As usual I am behind the camera and not in front of it!

Terry was busy starting a new quilt from a golf panel that she had. She got the idea for this quilt during our visit to The Red Rooster last weekend during our shop hop. Andrea was busy working on her quilt blocks for the Christmas Block Challenge.

Judy and Nancy sewing away!

Vicky and Julie are a couple of very busy ladies today!

Jacquie and Diane were busy getting set up while Joann continued working her projects.

Jacquie had 2 quilts she was putting the binding on. They were made for Ethan by Great Great Grandma Edie in 1952 and finished by Great Grandma Maher in 2013. Quilts were in beautiful shape for their age!

Vicky has been a busy little bee since the last workshop. She had lots of goodies to share with us. This was is a fleece blanket she tied for Grace the Mermaid.

She made quite a few items for upcoming babies.

This is a crocheted one she completed for another upcoming baby.

She worked on quilting this one today for a baby due in August.

She made this Turning Twenty for her first teenage granddaughter. Love the colors, but then I am partial to all shades of purple!

This Stretched Star she made is for a fundraiser for the Chris Speaking Organization. This will be raffled at The Cube in Findlay, OH on October 5, 2013.

And last but not least she is making this particular quilt for another quilting friend she will be seeing in the near future in Minnesota. Of course if contains her favorite fabrics, which are all by Robert Kaufman.

Nancy made this particular quilt without a pattern and using a batik charm pack that she had. Beautiful blue!

This one is a Border of the Month that she is doing, so she has added another of the borders she received to it. Will post this when it is done. Several of the ladies want this one when she is done.

Julie was busy making pillowcases from fabric that she got from the Serendipity Quilt Shop in Waldo, Ohio during our shop hop last Saturday. She was also pressing blocks for another quilt she is working on for her Buckeye Desk and Derrick group at Marathon. She ended the day hand sewing a hanger (sleeve) onto the back of another quilt she had completed.

Judy treated us with this wonderful quilt top that she only worked on during retreats that she attended. It contains 6,575 pieces. This is an absolutely wonderful use of scraps.

This one is a mini that she made from a pattern called Cotton Club Mini by Bonnie Blue Quilts. I love her ability to work with such tiny pieces and make them look beautiful!!

I spent most of the day behind the camera. If I wasn't taking pictures of the wonderful items that everyone was sharing, I was at our Aunt Pat and Uncle Glenn's 60th Wedding Anniversary party taking pictures. I did manage to sew a few pieces together of a lap size quilt kit that I had cut out. I will share this project at a later date when I have the top completed. I am onto cutting out the pieces needed for my block for the Christmas Block Challenge, as the exchange for these is fast approaching and I don't want to get caught with them not completed!!

Enjoy your upcoming week!! May it keep you blessed! Here is to the housework time being less and the sewing time being more! Can't wait till our next workshop to see all the wonderful things that everyone has worked on.

Theresa Thomas, one happy Scrappy Stitcher!!
