November 18, 2013

Hello Everyone!!

It has been awhile since I have been on here, so let me bring you up to date on what has been going on with the Scrappy Stitchers.

September 14, 2013 Workshop

Well we had beautiful weather and met for a day of sewing and exchanging our blocks for our Christmas Block Challenge.

Everyone involved brought there blocks or sent them with someone else if they couldn't be there. We laid them out so we could walk around and pick up each block. Somewhere in the craziness of getting all the block set up, I missed taking pictures of two of the blocks. The two center blocks were done by Joann (front) and Susan (back). Sorry ladies for missing close-ups of your blocks! :(

Catching up and sewing!!

Joann Grubb was a new face for the day. She joined us for some much enjoyed sewing time.

Terry was working on her Golf quilt she was making for her husband.

Brent was working on an applique project. Unfortunately he used a marking pen that disappeared in the heat.

He remembered the trick of putting it in the freezer and it brought the ink back.

Frossie was working on a baby quilt.

Nancy was working on her Buggy Wheel quilt block for a class that was being taught at Millstream by Ginger Owenga.

Vicky was also working on her Buggy Wheel block for class.

Susan was working on these blocks. Love the colors!

Diane was working on these blocks. Looking very spring like!

Judy was working on blocks for a quilt called Lady of the Lake. I love how these blocks look and the variety of colors.

Laurie Hicks (President) from the Stitchin Time Quilt Club dropped in for a visit and to see what everyone was working on.

October 14, 2013 Workshop

I don't know who attended this workshop or what projects were worked on, as I was unable to attend this workshop. I spent the month of October driving a 634 mile pipeline from St. James, LA to Patoka, IL collecting all of the physical records along this line for work. I didn't accomplish any sewing as tired ruled my month. I was able to take time to shop at a few local fabric shops, got some great deals and of course had to ship most of it home as it wouldn't fit in the suitcase. As if I needed more fabric! When I did make it home from this trip at the end of the month and was able to rest up, I spent time cutting out several quilts. I also was able to pick up my supplies to make my Christmas cards, which I am working how they will look for now. I will post a picture when I get them figured out.

November 9, 2013 Workshop

Even though it was a beautiful yet cooler day, six of us were able to get together and accomplish some sewing. I was even able to sew on a Christmas present. Ginger stopped in for a visit and dropped off some scraps from a quilt that Nancy was having her quilt.

Several sewers have been looking for a pattern for a Pincushion Thread Catcher. I found this free pattern on Merriment Design website. Here is the link for anyone looking for this pattern: http://www.merrimentdesign.com/pincushion-thread-catcher.php

Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Noon is our Christmas Block Exchange brunch at Nancy's house. Everyone that as their Christmas Quilt block tops done bring them for show and tell. Also bring a brunch type food to share with everyone. Nancy will be sending out an email with more details for those who were part of the block exchange.

Vicky made more fabric story books and then tried her hand at making a bowl shaped pot holder that you use in the microwave.

Andrea was making a few more blocks for her Christmas Block Exchange Quilt, as she wanted 20 blocks for her quilt. All contain the focus fabric from the original challenge. These blocks are called Card Trick (top), Circle of Geese (bottom left) and Whirlpool (bottom right).

Frossie showed off her Christmas Block Challenge quilt top.

Frossie finish putting this baby quilt top together. This one is called Baby Zoo Crew.

Brent worked on the binding for these potholders for his kitchen. These match a wall hanging that he had worked on at an earlier time. Nancy was helping him with the technique of sewing the binding on both sides.

Brent was working on this wall hanging at the September workshop. Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year.

This is a placemat and the leaves at the top are dimensional.

Nice use of black buttons on the snowman.

Brent shared additional projects of appliqueing that he has gotten almost completed. I like all these projects, but I am partial to the snowmen.

My next post will hopefully contain some of the projects I have been working on and pictures from our brunch! Now that I have the blog all caught up for now, it is time to call it a night. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Take the time to enjoy all the little things that make life all worthwhile and fit some sewing in...
